EA Sports College Football 25 attracted a record-breaking 5 million unique players in its first week of release, a significant increase from the 2.2 million who accessed the game early by July 19. Electronic Arts revealed these figures in its fiscal Q1 2025 earnings report on Tuesday, also highlighting that 500,000 players engaged with the game through EA Play’s trial offer.
Wall Street projected a GAAP earnings per share (EPS) of 88 cents and a non-GAAP EPS of 42 cents with $1.22 billion in net bookings, based on consensus data from Seeking Alpha. However, EA reported a diluted EPS of $1.04 and a non-GAAP EPS of 52 cents on $1.26 billion in net bookings. This represents a 14% decrease in revenue and a 29% drop in earnings compared to the same quarter last year. The company’s profit for the quarter, spanning April 1 to June 30, was $280 million, down 30% from the previous year.
EA reported $1.4 billion in net bookings from live services, a 5% decrease from the previous year but surpassing analysts’ forecast of $1.06 billion.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson commented in a letter to shareholders, “EA has made a strong start to FY25, exceeding net bookings guidance as we continue to advance our business. Our commitment to delivering larger, more engaging experiences for our players is evident in the record-setting launch of EA SPORTS College Football 25, setting the stage for another landmark Q2 sports season.”
EA CFO Stuart Canfield noted, “Our strong execution, live events, and ongoing player engagement led to Q1 results surpassing expectations. The impressive success of College Football’s launch week, coupled with upcoming releases like EA SPORTS Madden NFL, EA SPORTS FC, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is creating momentum for FY25 and beyond. We are well-positioned to achieve our multi-year financial goals.”
